Tree, rarely shrub, up to 10 m high; bark fibrous, deeply furrowed, grey on surface, brown below. Leaves opposite when young, later forming pseudowhorls; glabrous. Flowers in a 7-flowered (or fewer by abortion) dichasium; sessile, basally connate. Petals 4 or 5, white, orbicular, caducous. Stamens many, free, much longer than petals. Ovary inferior, 3(4)-locular. Flowering time Nov.? Fruit capsular, fruiting hypanthia, connate, forming a woody, compound fruit. Seeds narrowly cuneate.
