Characteristics

Slender annual.. Leaves many in a dense basal rosette, linear to subulate, 0.5–2.0 cm. long, 0.5–1.0 mm. wide, pilose with glandular and pointed hairs, subacute.. Scapes up to ± 20 but often much fewer, 8–25 cm. high, 3-ribbed, pilose with patent glandular hairs intermixed with appressed pointed hairs; sheaths equalling or more often longer than the leaves, conspicuously glandular-hairy.. Capitulum hemispherical to subglobose, 5–6 mm. diameter, shiny creamy-white or slightly yellowish; involucral bracts pale yellowish to light golden-brown, the outermost ovate-oblong and subacute, 1.4–1.7×0.6–0.8 mm., grading to oblong, the longest equalling the flowers, 2.3–2.8×0.7–0.9 mm., mostly glabrous, the innermost ciliate on the margins.. Flowers 1.4–1.7 mm. long; female sepals lanceolate, acute, pectinate-ciliate along the margins, usually thinly hairy also on the centre of the back, occasionally the back glabrous; male sepals similar, acute, the basal connate portion light gold, the free lobes pallid.. Seeds ellipsoid, 0.35–0.4 mm. long, white-striate.
