Characteristics

Multi-stemmed subshrub to 30 cm high, dioecious. Branchlets to 14 cm long, ribbed, glabrous. Stipules narrowly triangular, 0.4–1 mm long, acute, glabrous, red-brown. Stem leaves scale-like. Branchlet leaves scale-like, narrowly triangular to ovate, 0.7–1.5 mm long, acute, red brown. Sepals free, elliptic or narrowly ovate, glabrous, white and yellow or tinged pink. Male flowers: 1 or 2 per fascicle; pedicels 0.3–0.6 mm long; sepals 0.8–1.3 mm long, 0.5–0.7 mm wide; filaments connate into androphore 0.3–0.4 mm long; anthers ± free, spreading, 0.2–0.5 mm long. Female flowers: solitary; pedicels 0.2–0.5 mm long, elongating to 1.4 mm in fruit; sepals, 0.9–1.8 mm long, 0.5–1.2 mm wide; ovary ovoid, glabrous; stigmas erect to diverging, bifid. Capsule ovoid, 2.5–4.8 mm long, 2–4 mm wide, glabrous, green to yellow-brown. Seeds crescentiform, 3–3.6 mm long, irregularly verrucose to rugose, dark red-brown with paler warts.
