Characteristics

Erect shrub to 1 m high, monoecious; older plants with longitudinally fissured, brown bark. Branchlets to 40 cm long, ribbed, glabrous. Stipules narrowly triangular, 1.2–1.5 mm long, acuminate. Stem leaves scale-like. Branchlet leaves: petiole 0.8–2 mm long; lamina linear to narrowly elliptic, 15–32 mm long, 1.2–4 mm wide, obtuse, thickened or slightly recurved at margins, glabrous, concolorous. Male flowers: fascicles 1–3-flowered; pedicels 1–1.8 mm long; sepals connate for most of length into funnel-shaped tube 2.3–2.8 mm long, with 6 obtuse lobes 0.6–1 mm long; filaments and connectives connate; androphore 2–3 mm long; anthers elliptic, 1–1.5 mm long. Female flowers: solitary; pedicels 6–8.5 mm long, elongating up to 10 mm in fruit; sepals free, elliptic to obovate, 2.3–2.8 mm long, 0.7–1 mm wide, obtuse or acute, green; ovary ovoid, glabrous; stigmas minute, bifid. Capsule ovoid or subglobose, 5–8 mm long, 5–7.5 mm diam., pale brown. Seeds slightly curved, 5.5–7 mm long, faintly rugose, yellow-brown.
