Characteristics

Tree with simple hairs. Leaves imparipinnate. Flowers unisexual, creamy-white in axillary thyrses. Calyx deeply 4-or 5-lobed, extended into pseudopedicel. Petals 4 or 5, free, imbricate. Staminal tube cyathiform; margin irregularly and shallowly lobed; anthers 8 or 10, partly exserted. Disc obscure. Ovary with 3 locules, each with 2 ovules; style short with discoid head. Capsule loculicidal, 2-or 3-valved, locules usually 2-seeded. Seeds collateral, pendulous, epitropous, united by joint raphe-arils partly enveloping them.
