Characteristics

Corolla tube 3.5–4 cm long, dull greyish-white turning pink, sometimes with whitish spots; head of buds pale turning dark brown or blackish, 4–5 × 2.5–3 mm, obovoid-ellipsoid, subtruncate, with 5 small subterminal bosses arising from 2-ribbed keels on the back of each lobe; basal swelling 5–7 × 3.5–6 mm, ellipsoid to obovoid, constricted for 5–6 mm above; lobes remaining erect, 7–9 mm long, transversely corrugated on claw, with expanded part thick, 4–5 × 1.5 mm, oblanceolate, with incurved tips, slightly spurred.

Leaves mostly opposite; petiole 2–10 mm long; lamina thinly coriaceous, apparently somewhat glaucous, 6–18 × 3–15 cm, ovate to ovate-elliptic, slightly acuminate, cuneate or rounded to a shortly cordate base, with 6–8 pairs of lateral nerves, the 2nd–3rd pairs generally more strongly ascending.
Umbels many, crowded at older nodes, (2)4-flowered; peduncle 3–5 mm long; pedicels 1–3 mm long from well developed sockets; bract 2–3 mm long, saucer-shaped, with a small triangular limb.
Style with neck 2–3 mm long; stigma 0.8 mm across, ovate-capitate.
Stamen filaments with tooth 0.5–0.8 mm long; anthers 2–3 mm long.

Calyx 1.5–2.5 mm long, shortly cupular.
