Characteristics

Leaves up to 20 cm long, lobes 3-4, apical lobe small, triangular, often extenuate, other lobes triangular, acute to acuminate, spreading, sometimes slightly downward-pointing, upper margin entire or the lowermost in particular with one or a few coarse acute teeth, sinuses filiform-dentate, petiole not winged. Scapes up to 12 cm in flower, 30 cm in fruit, glabrous. Heads c. 3 cm across when fully expanded. Inner involucral bracts c. 12 mm long, lanceolate, outer bracts 7-9 x 2-2.5 mm, reflexed. Ligules yellow, backs dark. Style branches black, pollen present. Achenes rich dark brown, 3 mm long, cone 1 mm, beak 8-10 mm. Pappus creamy white.
