Characteristics

Perennial acaulescent herb, with milky latex. Leaves in rosettes; blade runcinate-pinnatifid, with 3 or 4 lobes, apical lobe triangular, all lobes acute, recurved, upper margins convex, they and sinuses coarsely acute-dentate, lower margins straight or slightly concave, entire or nearly so; petiole scarcely winged. Heads ligulate, solitary, terminal; peduncle usually up to 300 mm long in fruit, glabrous or nearly so. Involucral bracts biseriate, imbricate; inner 18 mm long, membranous-winged in lower part; outer ± 10 mm long, reflexed. Flowers: ligules yellow, dark on lower surface; style branches greyish when dry; Jan. Fruit with cypsela pale brown, fusiform, 3 mm long, with muricate ribs, narrowed and conical apically, cone 0.75 mm long, with 9.5 mm long beak. Pappus of many, creamy white, barbellate bristles.
