Characteristics

Perennial, acaulescent herb, with milky latex. Leaves in rosettes; blade runcinate-pinnatifid, with 3-5 lobes, apical lobe triangular, all lobes acute, somewhat recurved, upper margins convex or sometimes straight in lower lobes, lower lobes sometimes sharply and narrowly dentate; petiole narrowly winged below blade or not, purplish or not. Heads ligulate, solitary, terminal; peduncle up to 200 mm long, initially lightly cobwebby, glabrescent. Involucral bracts biseriate, imbricate; inner ± 15 mm long, with narrow membranous margins; outer up to 10 mm long, reflexed. Flowers: ligules yellow, greyish on lower surface; style branches yellowish when dry; Sep.-Feb. Fruit with cypsela straw-coloured, fusiform, 2.5-3.0 mm long, with muricate ribs, narrowed and conical apically, cone 0.5 mm long, with 7.0-8.5 mm long beak. Pappus of many, creamy white, barbellate bristles.
