Leaf blades, mostly drying dull-greenish in colour, 3–13(17) × 1.6–6.4(9) cm, elliptic or less often narrowly or broadly elliptic, shortly acuminate at apex, acute to ± rounded at base, somewhat coriaceous, glossy and glabrous above, except for the midrib, pubescent to glabrescent beneath; lateral nerves in 7–9 main pairs; domatia usually present; petiole 0.4–1.3(2) cm long, sparsely to densely pubescent; stipules with a brown corky area surrounding a central blackened area (in dry state), 2–4 mm long, ovate to triangular, acute or with a linear acumen up to 3 mm long.
Inflorescences terminal on short leafy lateral branches, 4–14.5 cm long, sessile; primary inflorescence branches up to 9 mm long, densely pubescent; secondary inflorescence branches very reduced; pedicels up to 1.5 mm long; bracteoles narrowly triangular.
Calyx covered with appressed hairs; tube c. 1.5 mm long; limb-tube 1.5–2.5 mm long, scarcely wider than tube; lobes triangular to lanceolate, 1.75–2.3 mm long, obtuse, tending to arch back when mature.
Small shrub or shrub 1.8–4.5 m tall or liane (fide Schmidt et al. 1215); young branches pubescent, older stems square in section, covered with reddish-brown flaking bark.
Corolla white or greenish-white, glabrous or rarely minutely pubescent outside; tube (0.6)1.6–4 cm long, pubescent at throat; lobes 6.5–10 × 2–3 mm, oblong, rounded.
Fruit green (blackish when dry), 6–7 mm in diameter, glabrescent, containing c. 10 seeds; calyx limb persistent.
Seeds light brown, shiny, 3–4 mm across, smooth.
Placenta fleshy, with 5–12 impressed ovules.
Flowers fragrant.
