Characteristics

Leaf blades sometimes anisophyllous, 9–18 × 3.5–9 cm, broadly elliptic, acute to shortly acuminate at apex, base obtuse to rounded, chartaceous, drying brownish; lateral nerves in c. 9 main pairs; tertiary nerves moderately prominent above; domatia inconspicuous; petioles 1–2.2 cm long; stipule limbs brown and somewhat darker at centre, 4–7 mm long, ovate to broadly ovate, acute or apiculate, eventually deciduous.

Inflorescences many-flowered, sessile, terminal apparently on main and/or moderately short lateral branches, frequently with the supporting leaves reduced or absent, moderately lax; primary inflorescence branches 0.7–1.5 cm long, glabrous or glabrescent; pedicels 0.7–1.4 cm long, pubescent; bracteoles inconspicuous.
Calyx tube 1 mm long, pubescent; limb 0.75 mm long, scarcely wider than tube, sparsely pubescent, divided for ± half its length into ovate rounded lobes.
Fruit black when dry, c. 6 mm in diameter, glabrescent containing c. 6 seeds; calyx limb persistent.
Corolla tube 5–7 mm long, glabrous outside; lobes 6–7 × 1.5 mm, narrowly oblong, rounded.
Glabrous shrub 4–10 m tall; young branches thinly covered with buff to red-brown bark.
Seeds olive-brown, shiny, 4–4.5 mm across, smooth.
