Characteristics

Tree 15 m. tall, glabrous; young branches square, slightly winged.. Leaves paired, infrequently anisophyllous, sometimes only one leaf developing at apex; blades greenish black when dry, narrowly oblanceolate to oblanceolate, 11.5–18 cm. long, 2.5–4 cm. wide, long acuminate at apex, attenuate at base, chartaceous, shiny on both faces, domatia present, glabrous or ciliate; petioles 1–2 cm. long slender; stipules sheathing, 2–3 mm. long, truncate to obtuse, turning black when dry.. Inflorescences terminal, with an additional pair of inflorescences arising from node below, lax; peduncle absent or ± 1 cm. long in terminal inflorescence or up to 3 cm. long in axillary inflorescences; primary inflorescence-branches 0.8–1.2 cm. long; pedicels 6–8 mm. long in fruiting stage, glabrous; bracteoles small.. Calyx only known of from immature bud and fruit; limb 1.5 mm. long, divided to the middle into rounded overlapping lobes.. Corolla not known.. Placenta with 3–4 impressed ovules. Fruit drying black, ± 1 cm. in diameter, crowned by persistent calyx-limb, 2-locular, containing (1–)2–6 seeds.. Seeds pale brown, 4 mm. long, smooth with ± circular excavation.
