Monoicous, of medium size, flaccid, epiphyllous or on hark. Stem to 2 cm long, up to 120 µ in diameter, repeatedly branched, cortical cells about 30 x 70 µ, thin-walled. Leaves slightly imbricate, concave, ovate, almost symmetrical, apex acute-pointed, usually overlapping but not crossing the stem. Marginal cells 14-20 x 20-30 µ, trigones small or lacking, basal cells up to 34 x 36 µ. Oil bodies to 6 per cell, 4-6 µ, composed of small drops, colourless. Lobule 1/4 as long as the lobe, twice as long as wide, margin incurved, straight or sometimes with an obtuse apical tooth. Amphigastria distant, circular-sometimes wider than long, 2-4 times wider than the stem, bilobed to 1/2-2/3, lobes triangular, acute, sinus acute, base spreading from the stem, amphigastria thus somewhat patent and concave towards the stem. Cells between the lateral margin of the amphigastria and the stem oblique in a characteristical manner. Perianth clavate with apex obcordate, plicae shortly decurrent, dorsal plicae shorter. Female bracts 1/2 as long as the perianth, acutely pointed and ± dentate in the vicinity of the apex, lobule reduced to a fold, acute, not dentate. Bracteole incised to 1/3, sinus acute, lobes ± dentate. Androecia small, bracts usually in 3 pairs.
