Caudex short, erect or suberect; stipe dark near its base, less so distally, commonly 15 cm long, basal scales to 5 mm long and to almost 1 mm wide at base; lamina firm to rigid, simple, broadly ovate with strongly cordate base, apex short-acuminate, margins entire or irregularly slightly sinuous, commonly 8 × 5 cm, largest seen 17 × 10.5 cm, rarely ± trilobed; main veins sinuous, hardly prominent, upcurved; lower surface glabrous, upper surface of costa variably short-hairy, at least near the base of the lamina; sori irregularly scattered, mostly punctate but often ± elongate or confluent, exindusiate, on both free veinlets in areoles and on veins surrounding areoles.
