Shrub 1–3 m. tall, usually virgately branched, mostly unarmed but sometimes the abbreviated lateral snoots are spine-like; stems pale grey or whitish, rather smooth, only the younger shoots puberulous.. Leaves borne on very short or cushion-like side-shoots, elliptic to narrowly obovate, 1–6.5 cm. long, 0.5–2.2 (–2.9) cm. wide, rounded at the apex and sometimes minutely apiculate, narrowed to the base into a petiole 0–7 mm. long, glabrous or puberulous; stipules 1–2 mm. long, becoming larger and ± corky, rendering the cushion-shoots scaly, usually puberulous and ciliate.. Calyx-tube 1.2 mm. long; limb-tube 1.2 mm. long; lobes 0.8 mm. long.. Corolla white, sometimes tinged pink; tube 1.5–2 mm. long; lobes green-tipped, 5 mm. long, ± 2 mm. wide..
