Characteristics

Suffruticose; stems procumbent, several from woody rootstock, pubescence variable. Branches slender. Leaves 2-4-jugate, long petiolate (25-90 mm long in var. longipetiolata H.M.L.Forbes). Leaflets 10-30 x 5-14 mm (very narrow in var. angustifolia E.Mey), subcuneate, oblong or lanceolate, obtuse or acute (mucronate in var. acutifolia E.Mey.); upper surface glabrescent; lower surface glabrous or hirsute (densely pubescent or hirsute in var. hirsuta Harv.); venation usually dark reddish brown on lower surface. Stipules subulate. Inflorescences: peduncles leaf-opposed, slender, 70-150 mm long, interruptedly few-flowered. Flowers dark pink to magenta. Calyx with subulate lobes, equaling tube. Flowering time Dec.-Mar. Pod 35 x 3 mm, linear, narrow, pubescent, ± 8-seeded.
