Characteristics

A decumbent perennial herb with long trailing hispid or pilose stems, ascending towards the apex.. Leaf-rhachis up to 7 cm. long, including a petiole of ± 1 cm., prolonged 2–3 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; stipules triangular, ± 3 mm. long and 1 mm. wide; leaflets 7–17, usually 13, elliptic-oblong, sparsely pilose beneath; chief lateral nerves ± 7 on each side, prominent and red beneath.. Flowers pinkish-purple in lax terminal pseudoracemes, a few also in upper leaf-axils; bracts subulate, up to 3 mm. long; pedicels ± 3 mm. long.. Calyx reddish-brown, hispid; tube ± 2 mm. long; teeth triangular-acuminate, more or less equal, ± 3 mm. long, upper pair free almost to base.. Standard white pubescent outside, ± 10 × 7 mm.; keel glabrous.. Upper filament lightly attached, sharply widened and bent 1.5 mm. above the base; filament-sheath ± 5 mm., free parts 1–1.5 mm., anthers 0.3 mm. long.. Style glabrous, sublinear, not twisted, sharply bent at base, incurved and not penicillate at tip, ± 2.5 mm. long.. Pod curved, ± 2.5 cm. long by 5 mm. wide, very shortly hispid.. Seeds 4–6, dark, longitudinal, kidney-shaped, flat, ±4 × 2.3 × 0.8 mm.; hilum central, hardly arillate.
