Characteristics

Softly woody stiffly erect perennial 0.5–2.5 m. tall.. Hairs on stems appressed, ± 0.3 mm. long.. Leaf-rhachis up to 5 cm. long, including a petiole of up to 13 mm., not or but shortly (1–3 mm.) prolonged beyond lateral leaflets; stipules subulate, ± 2 mm. long; leaflets 5–13, narrowly oblong-oblanceolate, up to 3 cm. long and 7 mm. wide, cuneate at base, rounded or truncate and apiculate at apex, glabrous above, appressed strigulose beneath; midrib prominent beneath.. Flowers pink or rose in rather lax terminal pseudoracemes and also in many upper leaf-axils; bracts narrowly triangular, ± 2 mm. long; pedicels up to 8 mm. long in fruit, appressed strigulose.. Calyx golden brown, appressed strigulose; tube ± 3 mm. long; teeth broadly triangular, lowest 3–4 mm., lateral 2.5–3 mm., upper pair 2 mm. long, united for half their length.. Standard with appressed golden hairs outside, ± 13 mm. long; keel glabrous, the claw over 3 mm. long.. Upper filament lightly attached, widened and sharply bent 2 mm. above the base; filament-sheath ± 9 mm., free parts 2–3 mm., anthers 0.6 mm. long.. Style glabrous, bent through 90° at the base, then straight, linear, not twisted, not penicillate, ± 5 mm. long and 0.7 mm. wide; stigma slightly pubescent.. Pod somewhat upcurved, up to 7 cm. long, 5 mm. wide, appressed golden brown strigulose.. Seeds 9–11, olive-green, longitudinal, oblong-ellipsoid, ± 4 × 2.5 × 1.2 mm.; hilum more or less central, hardly arillate.
