Characteristics

Erect herb about 60 cm. tall.. Stems, leaf-rhachides and undersurface of leaflets densely covered with short silvery appressed hairs.. Leaves 5–7-foliolate, some of the upper ones 1–3-foliolate; stipules triangular, up to 5 mm. long and 1.2 mm. wide; rhachis up to 3.5 cm. long, including a petiole of 2–4 mm., not, or by only 1–2 mm., prolonged beyond lateral leaflets; leaflets elliptic-or linear-oblong, up to 55 mm. long and 9 mm. wide, acute, rounded or retuse at the apex, glabrous above.. Flowers pale mauve in shortly pedunculate moderately dense terminal and axillary pseudoracemes, a few also in the axils of the upper reduced leaves; bracts narrowly triangular, up to 7 mm. long and 1 mm. wide; pedicels up to 4 mm. long.. Calyx silvery, the teeth brownish silky; tube 4 mm. long; teeth triangular-acuminate, the upper pair free from each other, 4 mm. long, the lowest 6 mm. long.. Standard golden-brown silky outside, 17 mm. long, 15 mm. wide; wings and keel glabrous.. Upper filament free, abruptly widened and thickened 1 mm. above the base; filament-sheath 12 mm., free parts 2 mm., anthers 0.9 mm. long.. Ovary with a 1 mm. stipe, ± 8 mm. long, densely silky; style tapering, not flattened, 9 mm. long, gently curved 4 mm. above the base, long-pubescent on its inner (adaxial) surface, very shortly pubescent on the distal part of the abaxial surface; stigma capitate; ovules 5–6.. Very young fruit ascending, densely silky tomentose.
