Characteristics

Erect rather woody herb up to 3 m. tall; stems densely silvery silky.. Leaf-rhachis up to 10 cm. long, including a petiole of up to 15 mm., prolonged 2–9 mm. beyond lateral leaflets; stipules caducous; leaflets 5–15, narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate, up to 6 cm. long by 15 mm. wide, acute, densely silvery silky beneath and at margins, glabrous above except for the silky margin; midrib much impressed above, nerve network prominent above and beneath, chief lateral nerves ± 18 on each side.. Flowers orange in terminal and lateral moderately dense many-flowered pseudoracemes; bracts lanceolate, caducous, ± 7 mm. long; bracteoles similar, near or above the middle of the pedicels, which are up to 15 mm. long.. Calyx densely brownish silky; tube ± 4 mm. long; lobes ovate-triangular, upper pair more than half united, ± 2 mm. long, lateral ± 5 mm., lowest 6–7 mm. long.. Standard densely brownish silky outside, ± 22 mm. long by 27 mm. wide; keel brownish silky at the joined edge.. Upper filament firmly attached for 7 mm., bent and callous 1.5 mm. above the base; filament-sheath ± 15 mm., free parts 4–7 mm., anthers 2 mm. long.. Style curved through 90° near base, tapering, pubescent on both sides, ± 12 mm. long.. Pod 10–12-seeded, densely whitish tomentose, almost straight, ± 11 cm. long by 1 cm. wide.. Ripe seeds not seen.
