Characteristics

Shrubby plant up to 1.3 m. tall, all the vascular parts rather reddish in colour; indumentum of stems, leaf-rhachides and lower surfaces of leaflets sparse, appressed.. Leaves 13–18-foliolate; stipules broadly lanceolate, up to 6 mm. long and 2 mm. wide, conspicuous in young shoots, later often reflexed; rhachis, including a petiole of up to 15 mm., up to 12 cm. long, prolonged 0–3 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; petiolules up to 3 mm. long; leaflets narrowly oblong-elliptical, apiculate, up to 25 mm. long and 8 mm. wide, glabrous above, the vein-network clearly marked, reddish.. Flowers purple and white in rather lax short pseudoracemes shorter than the peduncle and also in the upper leaf-axils; central bracts lanceolate, up to 6 mm. by 2 mm., lateral bracts linear, up to 4 mm. by 1 mm.; pedicels up to 5 mm. long.. Calyx reddish-brown, shortly pubescent; tube 3 mm. long; teeth narrowly triangular-acuminate, the upper pair free for 2 mm., the lowest 6 mm. long.. Standard yellowish-brown pubescent outside, 25 mm. long including a claw of 5 mm., 16 mm. wide; wing and keel glabrous, 20 mm. long.. Upper filament not bent or dilated, attached for most of its length; filament-sheath 17 mm., free parts 3–4 mm., anthers 0.8 mm. long.. Style 10 mm. long, abruptly bent through 80° 2 mm. above the base, pubescent on both sides, incurved at the tip; stigma capitate..
