Calyx 6–9 mm long, tomentose like the bracts; teeth shorter than or about equalling the campanulate part, the two upper ones joined for all or most of their length forming a broad obtuse triangle which is entire or with the two apices free for only 0.7 mm.
Inflorescence in flower compact, subglobose, exceeded by the upper leaves, elongating in fruit; bracts large and conspicuous but soon falling, up to 6 × 10 mm, broadly obtriangular and slightly apiculate, densely and shortly grey or brown tomentose.
Petals 21–22 mm long, purple or bluish-purple; standard cuneate at the base.
Young branches shortly tomentose with grey or grey-brown hairs.
Pods 72–78 × 7–8 mm, shortly brown tomentose.
Ovary appressed-pubescent; style pubescent.
Stamen tube c.16 mm long, fused above.
Shrub or small tree up to 4.5 m high.
