Characteristics

Perennial herb or sometimes a shrub 60-100 cm high, woody in the lower parts. Young stems densely appressed-pubescent with silvery silky hairs. Leaves pinnate with 2-4 pairs of leaflets; petiole 0.8-2(3.2) cm long, petiole and rachis together 1.8-7.2 cm long; leaflets (1.5)2-3.8 x (0.5)0.8-1.2(1.4) cm, ± oblanceolate, cuneate at the base, obtuse to retuse at the apex; upper surface glabrous, lower surface appressed-pubescent; stipules 3-5 x 0.5-1 mm, linear, silky like the stem. Flowers in fairly dense terminal racemes up to 15 cm long in fruit; bracts 3-4 x c.0.5 mm long, linear; pedicels 2-3 mm long. Calyx 6-8 mm long, covered with short, greyish, spreading hairs; teeth equalling to twice as long as the tube, the two upper connate for about 3/4 their length. Petals (10)12-15 mm long, yellow or perhaps sometimes cream coloured. Upper stamen loosely attached to the staminal sheath at least along one side. Ovary densely pubescent, prolonged into a densely pubescent beak terminated by the glabrous and upwardly reflexed style, with pencillate tip. Pods 8-16 x 5-6 mm, shortly tomentose, brown or greyish. Seeds 1 or 2.
