Species

Angiosperms > Myrtales > Combretaceae > Terminalia

Characteristics

Small deciduous or semi-deciduous tree 5-8 m high or shrub; crown flat-rounded; bark grey to dark-brown, longitudinally fissured; branchlets pubescent or glabrous with purplish-brown or purplish-black bark peeling off to reveal a light-brown newly exposed surface. Leaves spirally arranged, sessile or subsessile; lamina 9-15 x 5-7 cm, coriaceous, glaucous beneath, broadly obovate to obovate-elliptic, apex obtuse to rounded and sometimes shortly cuspidate, base narrowly cuneate and often when the leaf is quite sessile truncate at the point of insertion, glabrous or rather sparsely pubescent or sparsely appressed-pilose especially on the midrib; lateral nerves 10-20 pairs; petiole 0-2(4) mm long. Inflorescences of axillary spikes 7.5-11 cm long, often in the axils of the fallen leaves, glabrous or sparsely to densely sericeous. Flowers white. Lower receptacle glabrous or sparsely to densely sericeous; upper receptacle glabrous or sparsely pilose at the base. Sepals deltate-to triangular-acuminate. Stamens 3-3.5 mm long; anthers 0.5 mm long. Disk densely barbate. Fruit purplish or reddish-brown, 4-5.5 x 2.3-2.5 cm, elliptic to elliptic-oblong, apex obtuse to rounded and emarginate, base cuneate, stipe 5-7 mm long.
