Small semi-deciduous tree up to 12 m. high; crown rounded; bark grey-brown to grey-black, furrowed; branchlets stout, greyish-black, velutinous, with bark peeling off to reveal a reddish-brown striated newly exposed surface which later becomes greyish-brown.
Inflorescences of lateral spikes 4–9 cm. long, usually in the axils of fallen leaves; rhachis tomentose; peduncle 2 cm. long, tomentose.
Fruit 3·5–4 x 1·7–2·2 cm., elliptic-oblong, velutinous, apex emarginate, base subacute to truncate, stipe 5–7 mm. long.
Lower receptacle tomentose; upper receptacle sericeous-pilose.
Stamens 5 mm. long; anthers 0·5 mm. long.
Sepals triangular-acuminate.
Flowers creamy-white.
Disk pilose.
