Characteristics

Tree to 10 (–15) m high, deciduous. Branchlets appressed pubescent. Leaves crowded; lamina obovate, 4.5–12 cm long, 3–7.5 cm wide, 1.2–1.8 times as long as wide, attenuate at base, obtuse at apex, discolorous, glabrous; domatia absent or rare, small; petiole 5–20 mm long. Spike dense, c. same length as leaves. Flowers 5–6 mm long, c. 6 mm diam. Calyx glabrous; lobes triangular, c. 2 mm long and wide. Staminal filaments 2–3 mm long. Disc villous. Style glabrous. Mature fruit ovoid or globular, usually compressed with distinct longitudinal angles, not beaked, 2–3 cm long, 1.5–2 cm diam., succulent, smooth, green; immature fruit compressed, with a continuous wing to 5 mm wide.
