Characteristics

Shrub or tree to 15 m high, deciduous. Branchlets appressed pubescent, glabrescent. Leaves: lamina obovate, elliptic or oblong, 1.5–6 cm long, 0.5–2.5 cm wide, 2–4 times as long as wide, attenuate at base, sometimes decurrent along petiole, obtuse, occasionally retuse at apex, discolorous, ± glabrous; domatia absent; petiole 3–20 mm long. Spike open, longer than leaves. Flowers 5–8 mm long, c. 5 mm diam. Calyx often glabrous outside (almost glabrous or thinly pubescent outside), villous inside; lobes triangular, 1.5 mm long and wide. Staminal filaments 2–3 mm long. Disc villous. Style villous in lower part. Fruit a 2-winged nut, glabrous; body 1–2 cm long; wings 1–3 cm wide at widest part, tending to be membranous, rounded.
