Tall tree up to 39 m. high; bark greyish, smooth to slightly rough and fissured; young branchlets tomentose, becoming glabrescent, with fibrous bark.. Leaves spirally arranged, petiolate; lamina elliptic to broadly elliptic or obovate-elliptic, up to 18 cm. long and 13 cm. wide, apex rounded and acuminate, margin sometimes crenulate, base cuneate to obtuse or rounded, pubescent to pilose, especially on the nerves and reticulation beneath, often becoming glabrescent; lateral nerves 8–11 pairs, rather prominent beneath; petiole up to 4 cm. long, tomentose.. Inflorescences of axillary or occasionally terminal spikes up to 15 cm. long; peduncle up to 6 cm. long, tomentellous.. Flowers white, not sweetly scented; lower receptacle tomentose; upper receptacle pilose at the base, almost glabrous towards the apex..
