A small tree. It grows 12 m tall. It loses its leaves. The crown is flattened and the branches are horizontal. It has long shoots that zigzag and spur shoots near the ends of branches. The leaves are clustered at the ends of the spur shoots. They only have short leaf stalks. The leaves are bluish green above and yellow green below. They are 2-6 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. They are leathery. The flowering shoots are 8 cm long. The flowers are white and smooth. The fruit can be a purple-pink or brown. They are 2-3 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. There are 2 seed leaves. These are 10-12 mm long by 18-20 mm wide.
Leaves clustered at the ends of spur shoots, subsessile or shortly petiolate; lamina glaucous-green above and yellowish-green beneath, 1·5–6 x 1–2(3) cm., coriaceous, obovate-elliptic to narrowly obovate-elliptic, apex obtuse to rounded, base cuneate, nearly glabrous; lateral nerves 4–5 pairs; petiole up to 4 mm. long, sometimes sericeous.
Small deciduous tree up to 12 m. high or shrub, with flattened crown and horizontal branches; bark brownish-grey or whitish-grey, fissured, scaly or flaky; long shoots zig-zag, glabrous; spur shoots terminal or rarely lateral, on lateral shoots and occasionally on long shoots; spines sometimes present at the base of the spur shoots.
Cotyledons 2, 10–12x18–20 mm., half-moon-shaped to subreniform; petioles 2–4 mm. long, borne above soil level.
