Tree, 30 m. Young branchlets fulvous-tomentose, somewhat or considerably thickened. Leaves chartaceous to coriaceous, crowded at the ends of the branchlets, pubescent above, fulvous-tomen-tose or densely pubescent beneath, obovate, narrowly obovate or oblanceolate, 10-28 by 3½-11½ cm, rounded, acute or acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base; nerves 10-20 pairs; domatia sometimes present but usually not very conspicuous; petiole fulvous-tomentose, rather stout, 3-30 mm. Flowers greenish, in axillary spikes 10-18 cm long; rhachis fuscous-tomentose. Bracts early caducous. Lower receptacle (ovary) appressed-pilose, 3-4 mm long; upper receptacle rather sparsely appressed-pubescent, shallow-cupuliform, 1 by 3 mm. Calyx-lobes outside hairy towards the base, inside glabrous, deltoid, 1½ by 1½ mm. Filaments glabrous, 4 mm; anthers ½ mm long. Disk barbate. Style glabrous, 3 mm. Fruit at first appressed-pubescent, glabrous when mature, oblong-ellpsoid, scarcely compressed, 4½-7½ by 2½-4 cm.
