Characteristics

Note: Data in square and in round brackets refer to specimens included in a broad species concept. Stems 200 mm-1 m long, erect or decumbent [200-600 mm, possibly straggling] (250-600 mm, erect or decumbent), simple to well-branched particularly above, minutely glandular-puberulous, coarse hairs up to 0.6-1 mm long as well over whole length of stem. Primary leaves up to 10-28 x 3-11 mm, ratio of length to breadth roughly 2-4:1 [8-16 x 3-9 mm, ratio 1-3:1] (10-24 x 2-7.8 mm, ratio 2-5:1), elliptic to broadly elliptic or narrowly obovate [broadly ovate to suborbicular] (mostly narrowly obovate), acute [subacute to obtuse], gradually [abruptly] narrowed to a petiolar part, margins sharply serrate, sometime entire in secondary leaves, glandular-punctate, few to many coarse hairs on margins and midrib on lower surface of leaf, rarely hairy all over both surfaces [hairy on both surfaces] (hairs only on margins and midrib, sometimes very sparse). Flowers up to 5-20 in each partial inflorescence [12-23] (11-25), loosely arranged. Bracts up to 34.3 x 1-1.7 mm [34 x 1-1.2 mm] (34 x 1-1.3 mm), almost glabrous or with hairs up to 0.2-0.4 mm long nearly always confined to margins [0.3-0.8 mm, backs and margins] (0.2-0.4 mm, margins). Pedicels up to 0.5-1.5 mm long [0.5-1.2 mm] (0.8-2 mm). Calyx tube 1.6-2.3 mm long, posticous lobes 0.5-1 x 0.4-0.7 mm, hairs up to 0.2-0.4 mm long on margins. Corolla tube 6-9 x 1.2-1.5 mm in throat [3.7-4.2 x 1.4-1.6 mm] (4-6.8 x 1.2-1.8 mm), limb 4-6 mm across lateral lobes [3.6-5 mm] (3.5-5 mm), posticous lobes 1.5-2.2 x 0.9-1.5 mm [1.2-2.2 x 0.8-1.3 mm] (1.2-2 x 0.8-1.4 mm), anticous lobe 1.7-2.7 x 0.8-1.4 mm [1.4-2.5 x 0.9-1.25 mm] (1.5-2 x 0.8-1.5 mm), shades of blue and mauve [white] (shades of blue and mauve, sometimes almost white), clavate hairs around mouth, sometimes confined to posticous lip, sometimes wanting. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.8 mm long, anthers 0.5-0.8 mm long, anticous filaments 1-2 mm, anthers 0.5-0.8 mm Stigma 2.24.7 mm [2-2.2 mm] (2.34 mm). Style 3.6-6.3 mm [1.7-2.7 mm] (1.5-3.5 mm). Ovary 0.8-1 x 0.3-0.4 mm Capsules 2.5-2.7 x 1.5 mm Seeds c. 1 x 0.5 mm.
