Plants 30--90(--150) cm tall, glabrous. Stems simple or distally branched, smooth. Basal leaves withered at anthesis. Cauline leaf stipules narrow, margin irregularly lobed; petiole 1.5--5 cm; leaf blade 3-pinnate, 10--20 cm; petiolule pubescent; leaflet blade broadly rhombic or broadly ovate, 0.6--1.5 × 0.6--1.5 cm, herbaceous, both surfaces glabrous, base rounded to subcordate, margin 3-lobed; lobes few toothed; veins flat on both surfaces. Inflorescence paniculate, many flowered. Flowers unisexual or bisexual. Sepals 4, deciduous, yellow, tinged greenish, elliptic or elliptic-ovate, 1.5--2.8 mm. Stamens many, ca. 6 mm; filament filiform; anther oblong, 2.5--3 mm, apex mucronate. Carpels 6--9 in bisexual flowers, 10--20 in female flowers; ovary ovoid; stigma subulate.
