Characteristics

A small shrub, about 1 ft. high, branched from the base; branches ascending, rather rough with the persistent leaf-bases, glabrous; leaves linear, subacute, closely adpressed to the stem in the lower part, slightly recurved above, 3-4 lin. long, flat on the upper surface, slightly keeled below, glabrous; flowers arranged in dense terminal capitate clusters 4-5 lin. in diam.; bracts broadly ovate, acutely acuminate, longer than the flowers, with prominent membranous fimbriate margins; bracteoles similar to the bracts but much narrower and shorter; perianth 1 2/3 lin. long, with conspicuous external glands; segments linear-lanceolate, 1 1/4 lin. long, with a conspicuous hood 1/2 lin. long, bearded with a few short hairs; anthers included in the perianth-tube, 1/4 lin. long; style 1/4 lin. long, reaching to the middle of the anthers.
