Characteristics

A much branched sparsely leafy shrub up to 30 cm high. Leaves small, subulate, adpressed or spreading. Flowers in numerous few-flowered clusters. Bracts longer than the perianth tube. Perianth tube very short; lobes triangular, spreading, the margins minutely hairy, slightly thickened at the apex. Anthers with attaching hairs: filaments about as long as the anthers. Style short. Fruit globose, seated on a wide, cream-coloured slightly lobed base: characterised by a well-marked depression immediately below the junction of the perianth lobes.

Inflorescences with few flowers crowded in terminal clusters. Bracts ovate, hooded with inner surfaces concave. Flowers sessile, whitish. Perianth: tube absent; segments triangular, hooded.
