Perennial herb, up to 0.3 m high; glabrous, without spines. Stems erect, stiff, branched in upper part, few or fairly numerous, ribbed or angular. Leaves densely crowded on stems; laxly arranged; blade hard, linear, 6-12 mm long, apex acutely acuminate, midrib prominent on both surfaces, glabrous. Flowers: solitary in axils of bracts, gathered in a raceme-like inflorescence; bracts similar to leaves; peduncle shorter or a little longer than bracts; perianth with prominent tube, with an apical beard absent, 2.6-3.0 mm long, segments narrowly triangular-ovate, ± 1.5 mm long, hooded, white; Oct.-Dec. Fruit campanulate-globose, ± 6 mm long, prominently ribbed, coarsely reticulate between ribs.
