Characteristics

Perennial with a woody taproot up to c. 10 mm diameter at the crown; stems several tufted from the crown, c. 150–450 mm long, erect or possibly sometimes spreading, well branched from the base, branches ascending, ribbed by decurrent leaves, leafy.

Bracts 8–23 × 0.5–1.2 mm, linear, leaf-like, sometimes adnate to entire pedicel but only to lower part of peduncle in a single inflorescence, or wholly adnate (partial adnation in longest peduncles); bracteoles 2, c. 4–9 × 0.5–0.8 mm.
Flowers either solitary in the axil of each bract or in 3-flowered cymules, c. 5–15 racemosely arranged, inflorescences lax, sometimes with cymules in lower part, solitary flowers in upper, though terminating in a cymule.
Leaves ascending to spreading, primary ones on main stems c. 15–45 × 0.8–1.3 mm, shorter upwards and passing into bracts, linear, apex apiculate, margins cartilaginous, very minutely scabridulous to smooth.
Perianth probably yellowish-green; tube 0.6–0.9 mm long, external glands ellipsoid, inconspicuous; lobes 1.2–1.4 × 0.6–0.8 mm, triangular, acute, white-bearded from the apex.
Stamens inserted at base of perianth lobes; filaments 0.2–0.5 mm long, hidden by anthers; anthers 0.3–0.6 mm long.
Fruit 2.5–3 × 2.5–3 mm, light brown, strongly ribbed and reticulate.
Style 0.4–0.9 mm long; stigma reaching top of tube.
Pedicels/peduncles 2–15 mm long.
