Characteristics

Stems much-branched, sulcate, woody, scabrid-puberulous; branchlets more or less dichotomously forked, scabrid-puberulous; leaves recurved, acicular, acutely mucronate, about 3 1/2 lin. long, glabrous or puberulous like the stems; flowers few and crowded at the ends of the shoots, subsessile; bracts and bracteoles crowded, with puberulous margins; perianth 1-1 1/8 lin. long; segments 1/3-2/3 lin. long, lanceolate, subacute, hooded, and with a dense apical beard; anthers included in the perianth-tube, 1/4 lin. long; style 1/8 lin. long, reaching to the base of the anthers; fruits subglobose, 2 lin. long including the persistent perianth, prominently 10-ribbed, strikingly reticulate between the ribs.
