Dwarf shrub, 0.3-0.5 m high; covered with minute hairs. Stems rigid, much branched; branchlets spine-tipped, wrinkled; minutely puberulous. Leaves very small, triangular, rigidly coriaceous, apex acute. Flowers: solitary, distinctly pedicellate within bract; bracts ovate, apices subacute, glabrous; perianth not bearded, 2 mm long, segments ovate, margins with fringe of long papillae, apices obtuse, white; Dec. Fruit ovoid-globose, 4 mm long, stipitate, strongly ribbed, scarcely reticulate between ribs, finely puberulous.
