Characteristics

Stem slender, subsimple, evidently arising from a rhizome, about 1 ft. high, slightly flexuous, ribbed, glabrous; leaves linear, with a short acute cartilaginous apex, 1/2-1 1/4 in. long, about 1/2 lin., broad, flat, fleshy, glabrous, midrib conspicuous on the upper surface; flowers few, very shortly pedunculate; bracts shortly adnate to the peduncle, much longer than the flowers, flat and very similar to the leaves; bracteoles as long as or little longer than the flowers, green and like the bracts, but a little narrower; perianth 1 3/4 lin. long; segments triangular-elliptic, 5/8 lin. long, hooded, with papillose margins; anthers half exserted from the perianth-tube, 1/3 lin. long; style 3/4-1 lin. long, reaching to above the base of the anthers.
