Characteristics

Perennial herb with small woody caudex; stems many from the crown, 100–150 mm tall, decumbent or erect, profusely divaricately branched, not ribbed, sometimes minutely scabridulous all over, leafy, whole plant drying blackish.

Leaves ascending-recurved to spreading, c. 7–14 × 0.7–1 mm, smaller upwards and passing into bracts, linear, apiculate, ventral surface flat, dorsal ± rounded, thick and fleshy, sometimes minutely scabridulous all over.
Perianth colour unknown; tube 0.4–0.6 mm long, external glands conspicuous, ellipsoid; lobes c. 0.6 × 0.4–0.6 mm, triangular, subacute, glabrous.
Flowers solitary in axils of bracts, 1–5 racemosely arranged at branchlet apices, the whole forming a profusely branched panicle.
Bracts (lowermost) 2–10 × 0.5–1 mm, linear, leaf-like, adnate to entire pedicel; bracteoles 2, similar to bracts but smaller.
Stamens inserted at base of lobes; filaments c. 0.2 mm long, nearly hidden by anthers; anthers c. 0.25 mm long.
Fruit c. 2 × 2 mm, red-brown, with ribs and reticulations, these lightly raised.
Style 0.2–0.4 mm long; stigma reaching top of anthers.
Pedicels up to 2 mm long or flowers sessile.
