Characteristics

Dwarf shrub or shrub, 0.5-0.7 m high; glabrous. Stems tufted, slender, simple, sparsely branched, angular, glabrous. Leaves thick; blade linear, 4-14 mm long, apex with acute, recurved tips. Flowers: solitary in axils of bracts of lax spikes; bracts slightly adnate or free from peduncle, linear with acute, recurved tips, as long as or slightly exceeding flower; perianth bearded, 2-3 mm long, segments narrowly ovate, apices subacute 1.4-2.0 mm long, densely bearded, white; Oct.-Feb. Fruit ellipsoid-globose, 5 mm long, prominently ribbed, distinctly reticulate between ribs, purplish.

This differs from T. impeditum in habit and appearance, the longer bracts (4-6, instead of 3-4 mm l.), the smaller (2.5 instead of 3 mm l.) fls., the beard on the cal.-lobes being of very few hairs, the style nearly twice as l., and in the different frt.
Herb, up to 300 mm tall. Lower flowers opening first. Perianth tube very short, lobes 1 mm long. Perianth lobes quite glabrous within or fringed with papillae. Flowers white.
