Characteristics

Stem scandent, covered with shiny light-brown bark, glabrous; branches weak, elongated, probably hanging, slightly flexuous; leaves large, few, reflexed, fleshy, terete, up to 1 1/2 in. long, about 1 lin. thick, glabrous and closely wrinkled when dry; inflorescence cymose, about 3-flowered; bracts adnate to the peduncle for 1-3 lin., the lower leaf-like, recurved, up to 3/4 in. long; peduncle up to 1 1/2 in. long, subterete, glabrous; bracteoles minute; flowers very shortly pedicellate, about 1 lin. long; perianth cupular, 3/4 lin. long; segments ovate, obtuse, 2/3 lin. long, slightly hooded, fleshy, flat; anthers 1/8 lin. long; filaments 1/8 lin. long; style about 1/2 lin. long, stout, reaching to the top of the anthers; fruit ellipsoid-globose, about 2 lin. long, wrinkled and somewhat fleshy, red (Tyson).
