Flowers solitary, terminal but soon overtopped by a branch developing from the axil of a scale leaf immediately below the floral bract and so resembling a very lax 2–3-flowered spike, but technically a monochasial cyme, often terminating in a long very slender, sterile shoot.
Perianth “white”; tube 2.6–3 mm long, external glands conspicuous, ellipsoid, about half as long as tube, situated immediately above ovary; lobes 2.7–3 × 0.6–0.8 mm, oblong, ± obtuse, margins inflexed, weakly erose-fimbriate.
Leaves all reduced to scales 1–2 × 0.8–1 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, midrib strongly raised on dorsal surface near base; scales at extreme base of stem closely imbricate, distant and closely appressed on expanded stem.
Stamens inserted near base of perianth lobes; filaments 0.9–1.3 mm long, conspicuous; anthers 0.8–0.9 mm long.
Bracts c. 1 × 0.6–0.8 mm, similar to the scale leaves; bracteoles 2, similar to bract and scarcely smaller.
Fruit c. 2.5 × 2.5 mm, pallid, ribs strongly raised, reticulations coarse, strongly raised.
Style c. 5 mm long; stigma nearly reaching top of perianth lobes.
