Densely leafy, hemiparasitic shrub, 0.5-0.7 m high; dichotomously branched. Leaves secund (all directed to one side), linear, recurved, sharply keeled below, pungent, scabridulous on margins. Inflorescences with flowers in crowded, oblong spikes. Bracts linear-lanceolate, shorter than flowers. Flowers whitish. Perianth up to 5.5 mm long; segments linear-lanceolate, subacute, ± 3 mm long, hooded. Flowering time Aug., Sept. Fruit ovoid-ellipsoid, 10 mm long, including long, cylindric, persistent perianth; prominently 5-ribbed, intermediate ribs less conspicuous, reticulate.
