Characteristics

A shrub, up to about 4 ft. high; stem erect, branched in the upper part, subterete, glabrous; branches subterete; lower leaves longer than the others, acicular, with a very narrow groove on the upper side, up to 2 1/2 in. long, obtuse or subacute, somewhat fleshy, glabrous, upper leaves smaller and a little recurved, more or less flat on the upper surface; flowers crowded in small dense corymbs at the ends of the branches; bracts shortly adnate to the peduncle, similar to the upper leaves; peduncle 1/2-1 lin. long, slightly angular; bracteoles linear-lanceolate, shorter than the flowers; perianth 3/4-1 1/4 lin. long; segments 1/2 lin. long, triangular-ovate, apex and margin shortly papillose; anthers 1/7 lin. long; filaments about the same length; style about 1/4 lin. long; fruit ovoid-globose, 1 1/2 lin. long, 1 1/4 lin. in diam., 10-ribbed, with well-marked reticulation between the ribs.

Sparsely leafy, broom-like, hemiparasitic shrub, up to 2 m high; stem erect, virgately branched. Leaves cymbiform, linear to lanceolate in outline, scattered, upper leaves smaller. Inflorescences of terminal, many-flowered, lax, corymbose heads. Bracts oblong, fleshy, flat. Flowers white to creamy green. Perianth with tube up to 0.3 mm long; segments triangular-ovate, margins shortly papillose. Disc conspicuous. Flowering time July-Oct. Fruit globose, ± 5 mm long including persistent perianth, yellowish brown; 10-ribbed with reticulation between ribs.
