Characteristics

A much branched densely leafy shrub, 50 cm high or less. Leaves linear, acute, spreading, slightly convex above, bluntly keeled below, 2 cm long or less, bright green when young, the margins scabrous. Flowers crowded in dense rounded terminal heads. Bracts similar to the leaves, about as long as the flowers, with fairly wide translucent margins. Perianth tube long, narrow: lobes about half as long as the tube, spreading at the tips, obtuse or somewhat acute, densely bearded at the apex. Stamens inserted near the top of the tube: anthers with attaching hairs: filaments short. Style long, not much shorter than the perianth tube. Fruit globose, seated on a pale swollen base, the ribs not conspicuous.
