Characteristics

Plants green to dark gold in mostly dense mats. Stems creeping, the branches commonly curled when dry (as in T. inflexum). Branch leaves imbricate, orbicular to broadly ovate, rarely even wider than long, 0.4-0.75 mm long, 0.32-0.62 mm wide, abruptly and shortly acuminate, slightly concave, the margins plane, entire to slightly serrulate above; costa ending about 1/4 the leaf length; upper cells relatively short and broad, 9-19 µm long, 4-5 µm wide, the papillae commonly faint and low; alar cells very well developed, extending up the margin 1/2-3/4 the leaf length. Perichaetial leaves with an oblong base and then abruptly and long acuminate, 4-1.9 mm long, 0.42-0.55 mm wide; costa single; cells ± linear. Exothecial cells± quadrate, slightly to distinctly collenchymatous. Spores 11-15 µm in diam., finely papillose.
