Characteristics

Wiry vine, up to 2 m long, monoecious. Stipules lanceolate, 2–4 mm long. Petioles 6–20 mm long. Leaves with stinging hairs, lamina ovate, 40–120 mm long, 18–55 mm wide; base auriculate; margins serrate with 17–28 teeth; tip acute to acuminate; lateral veins 9–12 per side of midrib. Male flowers not seen. Female flowers: pedicels c. 0.4 mm long; calyx lobes lanceolate, 1.8–2.2 mm long; styles c. 1.8 mm long, connate for most of length, shortly recurved for c. 0.7 mm. Fruit c. 7 mm long and 10 mm diam. Seeds 5–5.7 mm diam.
