Characteristics

Wiry vine, up to 6 m long, monoecious. Stipules lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long. Petioles 15–70 mm long. Leaves with stinging hairs, lamina elliptic to ovate, 15–120 mm long, 5–50 mm wide; base lobate to auriculate or sagittate; margins serrate with 21–35 teeth; tip acute to acuminate, lateral veins 5–8 per side of midrib. Male flowers pedicels 1–1.2 mm long; sepals obovate, 1–1.3 mm long; stamens 4. Female flowers: pedicels 1–2 mm long; calyx lobes lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long; styles 0.8–0.9 mm long, barely connate at base, recurved. Fruit 7–8 mm long, 8–9 mm diam. Seeds c. 5 mm diam.
