Leaf blade 2–7 × 1–4 cm, lanceolate to triangular-lanceolate, acute at the apex, finely and closely serrate on the margins, truncate to shallowly or more deeply cordate at the base, thinly chartaceous, 5–7-nerved from the base, evenly to sparingly pubescent and with urticating bristles along the midrib and main nerves on both surfaces; lateral nerves in 4–5 pairs, slightly prominent.
Inflorescences terminal, axillary or leaf-opposed, unisexual, the male inflorescences up to 12 cm long, the females not exceeding 4 cm; male bracts 1–2 mm long, linear, 2–3-flowered; male bracteoles minute, subulate; female bracts 3 mm long, lanceolate; female bracteoles resembling the male bracts.
Male flowers: pedicels 1 mm long; buds obovoid-ellipsoid; calyx lobes 2–1 mm, oblong, obtuse, pubescent without, glabrous within, greenish-yellow; stamens 1.5 mm long; pistillode 3-lobed.
An erect sparingly-branched urticating perennial herb up to 45 cm tall, dioecious or monoecious; stems few from a small woody rootstock, puberulous and/or hirsute.
Fruit c. 3.5 × 5 mm, 3-lobed, smooth, sparingly pubescent, and stinging-setose on the keels.
Stipules 3–5 mm long, linear-lanceolate, pubescent without, glabrous within.
Seeds 3 mm in diameter, globose, light brown.
Petioles short, 2–12 mm long.
